Today, November 10th, marks the 245th birthday of the United States Marine Corps. Originally established in 1775, just 8 months prior to the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the Marines purpose was to provide additional security and support for the Continental Navy. Led by Samuel Nicholas, the initial two battalions performed heroically during the Revolutionary War, however were dissolved by Congress due to lack of budget. The Marines were reborn July 11, 1798, from this day forward the Marines have served with distinction, purpose and heroism in every situation.
“Semper Fidelis” or “Semper Fi” for short is the Marine’s motto which translates to “always faithful” in Latin. This signifies a Marine’s Loyalty to the mission, their brothers in arms, and to our great nation.
